בעל כשרון, מרץ ויוזמה בלתי נדלים, שבזכותם הפך לאחד מגדולי סיטונאי המזון
בהונגריה. אולם ייחודו הנעלה ביותר היה נדיבותו המסורה לנוער החלוצי. יהודי שומר
מצוות שהפך לידיד השומר הצעיר מראשית קיומה, סייע לפלוגות ההכשרה ולכל פעולות
התנועה.
בעוון תרומתו להברחת פליטי סלובקיה נאסר ביחד עם שמחה הונוולד וחבריו ורכש את אהדת כל האסירים הגויים בכלא בעממיותו וארגון הספקת מזון עבורם.
עם הפלישה הנאצית הוא מקדיש את כל מרצו לצבירת מחסני מזון להזנת הגטאות ובתי החסות, תוך הסתכנות מתמדת בעימותים עם השלטונות. אירגן קנית מזון בעיר בודפשט ובערי השדה הקרובות עבור הצלב האדום הבינלאומי - כביכול. הקשר שלו בקניות מצרכי המזון וריכוזם במחסני "הצלב האדום הבינלאומי", היה עם זולטן ויינר ועם אפרה אגמון מהמחלקה הכלכלית של "הצלב האדום הבינלאומי".
