בלה יערי הצליחה להגיע לווילנה עם פרוץ המלחמה, ושם נבחרה לשמש כקשרית
של "החלוץ", וזאת בשל מראה פניה "הטוב". במהלך שנות הכיבוש
הגרמני סיכנה את חייה בשליחויות מחתרתיות בין הגטאות ואף נשתלה במתורגמנית במפקדה
של הגסטאפו.
לאחר שנתפסה
כשעל גופה נשק וחומר הסברה, נשלחה לבירקנאו ושרדה.

Bella succeeded in getting to
Vilna at the start of WWII and there was chosen to be a liaison for the Halutz,
this was due to her 'good' facial features. During the German occupation she
risked her life in Underground operations and even worked as a translator for
the gestapo. After she was caught with weapons and secret papers, she was sent
to Birkinau and survived. Her autobiography is entitled, "They call me
Bronislava" after the Aryan name she went by under her falsified identity
