ביום הזיכרון לשואה תשע"ו קיבל בנה, נחי, את אות "המציל היהודי" עבור אמו המנוחה.
(Warsaw 1924- Israel 2008)
She joined the youth movement Jewish Fighting Organization
"(Eyal), and participated in the storage of weapons, assisting the Jews
in Warsaw who opened fire on the Germans.
One day she came home and found it empty - all her family
except for one brother were killed. On 10 April 1943, with the approval of the
Underground, she left the
ghetto to go to the Aryan side.
Bella, taking over the name Wanda (which stuck), was hired
as an assistant with a Polish family, and because of her Aryan appearance she
began to move money, letters, weapons, false documents and information from the
ghetto to the Aryan side,
as she evaded the Germans, blackmailers and informers
.
Emanuel Ringelblum, writer of the Ghetto Archives (known as
Sabbath), wrote in his diary about "brave girls, heroines". Adolf
Abraham Berman wrote that Wanda "was one of the boldest couriers ... a
vigorous, responsible and cautious woman- an
exemplary underground activist ".
April 20 saw how the ghetto revolt in ended in flames. She
continued to care for
children of Polish family until the end of the war. Then she
moved to Lodz, where she met her husband to be Joseph Gutman and a son, Noah.
On Holocaust Memorial Day, her son Nachi, received the
"Jewish savior" recognition for his late mother.
